Frequently asked questions
A facial is like a vacation for your skin! Prior to your appointment we will ask you to fill out a skin questionnaire so we can get to know your skin a little bit before we we you. You will be welcomed into our private and cozy treatment room where we will discuss briefly your skin history and goals for your treatment. Then we will then allow you to to get comfortable on our heated treatment table and we will begin your facial.
We will cleanse your skin, perform a visual analysis and further discuss a treatment plan/home skincare regiment if desired. Depending on your skin type, goals and personal preferences, your facial may include aromatherapy, a relaxing steam to soften skin and loosen debris in the pores, a physical or chemical exfoliation, gentle extractions of acne lesions, facial and/or upper body/scalp massage, a customized treatment mask and products targeting your skin concern. Your facial may include some advanced modalities to enhance your results such as high frequency, ultrasonic skin scrubber, LED therapy, cryotherapy, etc.
Your skin health is our number one priority, so any treatments we choose to perform will always be customized for your specific skin type, color, condition and concern. Some treatments are not suited for certain skin types and we will always help you select the treatment that is just right for your skin to get you the most beautiful results!
It is generally recommended to receive a facial once a month. Our skin's natural cycle from the time a skin cell is formed, to the time it reaches the skin's surface is about 30 days (shorter when we are younger and longer as we age). To create change in the skin, we want to stay ahead of the skin cycle with our treatments.
Acne clients are encouraged to come more frequently with our acne bootcamp clients coming for treatment bi-weekly to stay ahead of the acne process. Once your skin clears, treatments can be spaced further apart for maintenance.
While you will see immediate improvement from one treatment (often smoother, brighter, more youthful glowing skin, softened lines, reduced inflammation, acne, etc--expect lots of compliments on your skin!), specific skin concerns may take a series of treatments to see the results you are looking for. They often have taken a long time to form and thus may not be able to be corrected with a single treatment.
Hyperpigmentation for example, can be especially stubborn, requiring a series of peels to to lift pigment that is buried deep within the skin. These imperfections must be lifted layer by layer carefully combined with a strict homeware regimen to enhance results and prevent further pigment from forming.
Inflamed acne can be cleared in as little as 90 days with significant improvement in the first several weeks of targeted in-office and home treatment. Non-inflamed acne can take longer to clear and needs a more aggressive approach.
Treatments meant to stimulate collagen within the skin to improve the appearance of wrinkles, texture, skin laxity, etc do show some immediate results but build over time with collagen taking up to 30 days to form as the result of a treatment. A series of treatments is best for improved results.
Your esthetician will discuss with you a treatment plan that is best suited to your skin's needs.
Don't be scared of chemical peels! They are such a powerful skincare tool for achieving the beautiful, glowy skin of your dreams! All chemical peels are not created equal. Often the peels you see with "snake" or "sheet" peeling are medium to deep peels, are performed in doctors offices and contain a high percentage of exfoliating acids. The peels that we use range from very superficial to medium depth and contain lower percentages and thoughtful formulations to target your concerns without harming the skin or leaving you looking like a lizard during molting season. With most of our peels you will often experience no flaking at all. With some of our stronger peels, you may experience some flaking or mild peeling (similar to the way you might peel from getting a sunburn)
If you are new to chemical peels we will always choose a gentle peel for your first time and work you up to a stronger peel or more layers in subsequent treatments if desired. Rest assured that your skin is in good hands and will always be properly prepped through home care and prior treatments before we perform more advanced peels.
When you book an LED treatment with us, we will cleanse and prepare your skin, provide you with protective eyewear and place our Lightstim Elipsa LED panel directly over your face. We may perform scalp or arm massage during your treatment (12 to 16 minutes) if desired. Our panel is FDA approved to treat wrinkles on the face and treat mild to moderate acne and reduce inflammation in the skin. We offer either red light or blue light treatment depending on your skin concern. It is the perfect add-on to any facial to boost results!
Red light:
Antiaging
Improves skin tone and texture
Stimulates collagen
Improves the look of fine lines and wrinkles
Improves wound healing and healing after chemical peels
Reduces inflammation and redness
Blue light:
Kills acne causing bacteria
Reduces inflammation from acne
Speeds up wound healing
Improves skin texture
Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
High frequency is an electrical modality used during facials to improve overall health of the skin. We use it often in facials targeting acne. A current is run through the wand containing plasma and produces an ozone rich environment. This ozone is oxygen rich and is naturally antimicrobial which kills acne causing bacteria on contact, reduces inflammation, puffiness and brings blood flow and healing to the skin. It helps produce collagen in the skin leading to a smoother, tighter complexion and helps reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines.
You will likely experience a tingling sensation on the skin and a faint smell of ozone during the treatment.
You may not receive high frequency treatment if you have a pace maker, epilepsy, metal implants or are pregnant
Hydrodermabrasion is an advanced form of skin exfoliation that combines the use of diamond-tip exfoliation with light peeling solutions to gently yet effectively exfoliate and resurface the skin. It helps to soften signs of aging such as dryness, fine lines, enlarged pores, uneven skin tone and texture and prepares the skin to receive skincare ingredients more readily.
It can be combined with other treatments such as needle-less mesotherapy, dermaplaning or chemicals peels to enhance results.
The hydrodermabrasion technology we use at The Bohème Aesthetics has a unique dual-diamond tip with twice the surface area paired with a more gentle suction which produces better exfoliation while protecting the skin.
